about the band
ENTERTAINMENT TODAY, LA:
"Take (5) best friends, give them voices capable of
bloodline-like four-part harmonies, the talent to write catchy hooks and
melodies, and the will to take their music to the public on their own
terms (adding to that, a rather bent view of life and a propensity to
laughter), and the result will be a band like the scoldees."
Currently, the band is recording their 3rd CD and editing video footage
for their 1st DVD entitled, "the scoldees: unREHEARSED".
Ingredients:
Their sound is an eclectic
acoustic mix, an organic fusion of rich voices, fluid bass and earthy
percussion that has been called everything from progressive to pop. Producer John Michel often joins the band on drums and
percussion. Their debut album, My Pathetic Life, received terrific
reviews both in the press and on the web, accumulated over 15,000
downloads on various music websites, and six cuts from the CD received
airplay across the country on Top 40, AAA and Adult Contemporary radio.
Nightcap World is their latest CD, and it is currently getting airplay
on over 350 stations nationwide, with "adds" in more than 225 radio
markets. Their sound has been described as an organic fusion of rich
harmonies, chunky guitars, fluid bass, with old (and some new) world
percussion; an eclectic acoustic style that has been called everything
from progressive to pop.

The scoldees were once booked to open for
Missing Persons, but Missing Persons didn't show. How funny is that.
They also had a well received, albeit politically incorrect (Gary The
Retard's Birthday Parody), performance on The Howard Stern Show on
syndicated radio and on national television.

NANCY SIRIANNI |
|
|
Lead singer NANCY SIRIANNI owns and operates the independently
distributed record label OHR Records, as well as Spinning Plates
Productions, Inc., with offices and a fully automated recording
studio on Long Island’s beautiful North Shore. A self proclaimed
story-teller, Nancy collaborates with several songwriters in
Nashville, and has recently begun working for a
literacy-through-music based kids’ TV show that will star folk
legend Richie Havens as “Mister Word Wizard”.
Nancy is also an accomplished actor, with credits that include
countless stage productions, several independent films, and
television appearances such as High Tide (starring Rick
Springfield), America's Most Wanted, and NBC Television’s LAW &
ORDER Criminal Intent. She is represented by Omnipop Talent Agency,
NY and LA.
As a producer, Nancy has many credits in addition to her own music
CDs, including stage (her “home” theatre is Manhattan Theatre Source
in Greenwich Village, NYC) and stand-up comedy (she has co-produced
numerous live concerts and 4 comedy CDs with ex-husband, Jackie “The
Joke Man” Martling). |
|
JACK HOFFMANN |
|
|
Lead singer and poet JACK HOFFMANN is a prolific songwriter with an
extensive back catalog that the scoldees can only hope will someday
fill numerous CDs. He and Sirianni have been partnered since 1991,
having gone through two incarnations before the scoldees: ALL FOLKED
UP, an acoustic trio, and the rock based BIG ORANGE MARBLE. These
locally notable ventures succeeded in setting the stage for the
pair’s current collaboration with fellow songwriter and long-time
friend, John Collis.
Jack’s creativity extends to the pencil in more ways than one, as
Jack is a talented visual sketch artist. He’s a pretty good cook,
besides ("I can make a nice hearty Squash soup.”). Jack is also a
part time comedian when he writes after a few beers, but his best
work so far is son Jackson. “I'm a pretty good Father”, Jack says.
Guess we'll see about that when the fruit leaves the tree!"
Jack currently pays the bills as an expert in Excel Spreadsheets,
PowerPoint, and Access data bases. |
|
JOHN COLLIS |
|
|
Johnny, JC, Jace, JOHN COLLIS has many monikers, just don’t call him
late to Happy Hour. John is the pivotal man in the scoldees, moving
seamlessly from percussion (mostly a Brazilian cajona) to guitar (a
12-string Ovation), and writing the catchiest riffs known to Nan. In
JC's own words "I can play a decent rhythm guitar, smack interesting
things in time, and devise a vocal harmony line to nearly anything”.
JC is also a talented graphic artist, and he designed the artwork
for both My Pathetic Life and Nightcap World, the scoldees 2 CDs.
Johnny says, “I like making things look pretty....although I haven't
had much luck with my own appearance.” His uncanny ability to spot
inconsistencies makes him a good editor, both in the art studio and
the music studio, and he claims he can suck down beer and STILL come
off as a complete idiot.
You can keep an eye for JC's new talk show, “Good Heart, Open Ear”,
where you can feel comfortable sharing with Jace all your stupid
problems." |

GLEN SAUNDERS |
|
|
GLEN SAUNDERS plays both acoustic stand-up bass and electric bass
for the band. His background is diverse, having played and toured
for years with the popular ska band, THE SCOFFLAWS, and currently
working on the side with a jazz quartet. In his spare time, Glen can
be found staggering around bars advising the local bar staff on how
you can live on beer.
Glen is a proud Daddy of two, and when he is not playing music he
manages to manage pharmaceutical clients through implementations of
online physician marketing programs. You understand? No? What is
important is that Glen does. He has also managed a technology
department, before that he was a programmer, and before that, “I was
a bum I tell ya…a bum!” |
