In Ireland, the word 'Ceili' has wide connotations. "Will you come for a ceili?" often means will you come over and have a chat and a cup of tea (or something stronger) and enjoy the company of neighbours and friends. Songs, poems and dance music played on the fiddle, flute or accordion are essential ingredients for the ceili. The northern Irish province of Ulster has taken advantage of both Irish and Scottish musical traditions and this collection recorded by talented musicians and singers in the border county of Fermanagh is also representative of the very best in contemporary Ulster song and dance music. Jimmy Shand`s Scottish Ceili band music was a major influence on Jim McGrath who skillfully combines Ulster and Scottish dance music in seamless new tunes.
